The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Punjab has termed the meeting between Punjab Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh and Union Home Minister Amit Shah ahead of the Union government's second round of meeting with the farmers as 'shady', which has raised questions of propriety.
In a statement issued from party headquarters on Thursday, state youth wing president and MLA from Barnala said the beleaguered farmers of the country had been fighting against the black laws on agriculture for over months, which had posed a potential danger to the their livelihood, adding that the Chief Minister remained a mute spectator to the on goings while sitting cozy at his royal farm house. Raising a question of propriety, Hayer said that the meeting held between the duo, ahead of the Union Government scheduled meeting with the agitating farmers' representatives, made sense especially when the farmers were fighting their sustenance.
Meet Hayer said that while nothing had come out of what transpired between the two leaders at the meeting, the CM should tell the people of Punjab whether or not he exerted pressure on the Home Minister to repeal the contentious laws. The youth leader said Captain's telling the Home Minister to review and reconsider and resolve the issues and concerns of the farmers expeditiously make no sense at this point in time. These timid remarks by the Captain reinforced one's suspicion that the Captain in collusion with Modi- Shah were hatching a conspiracy to weaken the farmers' struggle, he said.
The AAP MLA alleged that, Instead of clearing his stand on the withdrawal of the Agriculture Acts by the CM, he (Captain) referred to Punjab as a border state citing national security, saying that it was a mere design to derail the farmers' movement by citing such non-issues at the behest of Modi and Shah. He also slammed the CM for misleading the people by telling them that the farmers' movement was the Punjab farmers' issue and not the moment of the farmers of the entire countries, to mislead the country .
Sharply reacting to the Captain's meeting with union Home Minister Amit Shah, the AAP leader said that certain serious cases of corruption involving his (Captain) family members with the ED sending notices to them, had weakened the Chief Minister. He added that the personal 'weaknesses' and political compulsions of the CM that led to the hurried meeting with the Home Minister. He said that if such a one-on-one meeting had to take place it should have taken place much earlier.
