The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Punjab has strongly condemned the atrocities being orchestrated on the farmers of Punjab by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar, by way of stopping them from holding a protest march to Delhi against the three controversial central agricultural laws enacted by the Mod government at the Centre.
In a statement issued from the party headquarters in Chandigarh here on Thursday, state unit president and Sangrur Lok Sabha member Bhagwant Mann said that stopping the farmers’ protest march to Delhi by brute force was highly reprehensible act on the part of the Union and Haryana governments, adding that the Aam Aadmi Party strongly opposed the move to bulldoze the stir.
Bhagwant Mann said "Our constitution guarantees us the right to protest in a democratic manner. It is a matter of grave concern that the BJP government has crossed all limits of constitutional propriety by denying the farmers their legitimate right to hold protests against the draconian Central agriculture marketing laws ". He said that it was democratic right of the farmers to fight for their rights and no one could take away this right from them, adding that the Aam Aadmi Party would go to any extent to fight for the rights of the farmers.
The Sangrur MP said that the MSP regime was the statutory right of the farmers and the Aam Aadmi Party would fight tooth and nail to ensure legal guarantee of MSP to the farmers on all crops.
Mann said that due to the poor governance of the Modi government at the Centre and the Captain government in the state that all sections of the society, including farmers, laborers and traders were facing the heat on all fronts. Slamming Captain Amarinder Singh back and forth, Mann said he had proved himself as the weakest Chief minister of the country, saying had he cared for the farmers and addressed their concerns, the farmers, laborers and traders in the state would not have seen this black day.
Bhagwant Mann accused PM Narendra Modi of taking anti-people decisions, one after the other, ever since the government led by him was voted to rule the country, alleging that he was now running away from ensuring legal guarantee of MSP to the farmers on all crops, adding that the farmers, laborers and traders of Punjab were the backbone of the state economy and needed to be protected among others.
Mann said that first due to the Corona pandemic and later due to the Modi government stubborn stance towards the farmers and Captain's personal ‘weaknesses’, the state was pushed into an abysmal financial mess, triggered by the suspension of freight trains in the state, which proved a detrimental to farmers, laborer sand traders, who suffered huge financial losses.
He accused both Modi and Captain equally responsible for the ongoing farmers' struggle and the pitiable plight of traders in the state, adding that if the Modi government had listened to the voice of the farmers and found a solution to their problem, the farmers, laborers and traders would not have to face the crisis they were passing through.
