The Shiromani Akali Dal today stronglyurged the Government of India to immediately convene a joint meeting of allstake holders in the on-going  farmersstruggle including representatives of farmers, farm labourers, shopkeepers andall political parties to resolve the crisis arising out of controversial Acts passedrecently by the parliament.

A meeting of the Core Committee of the partyalso set up a three-member High Powered Committee to coordinate with farmersorganisations and others on the future course of action and strategy on gettingthe farmers’ demands fulfilled.     Giving details of themeeting in a press release here this evening , Mr Harcharan Singh Bains, Principal Advisor to the SAD President Mr Badal  said  that Sardar Balwinder Singh Bhunder, Prof Prem Singh Chandumajra and JathedarSikandar Singh Maluka are  the members ofthe Coordination Committee on farmers’ demands and agitation.

Mr. Bains said that the Core Committee was of the view that the “Farmers struggle is a jointstruggle of all Punjabis and it affects the future of the entire economy of thestate and the country. What is required is unity in this struggle.” Thatis why the party has set up a coordination committee to ensure a co-ordinatedresponse of all stake holders to the challenge posed by the Government’s decisions. Mr  Badal has already offeredunconditional support to farmers’  organizationsin this regard, “ said Mr Bains
The Core Committee demanded the  repealing ofthe three Acts passed recently on the marketing of farmers produce and saidthat  there should  be  mandatory provisions for  constitutional guarantees for the continuanceof official procurement of farmers’ produce at Minimum Support Price (MSP) .

The Core Committee thanked and congratulated Punjabis, farmers and the SAD workers for the success of theKisan March organized by the party on October 1 and strongly condemned thepolice repression against peaceful agitators at the end of the march

In a majorresolution, the Core Committee emphasised the need to safeguard “Peace andcommunal harmony  in the state as toppriority.  “SAD is ready for supreme sacrifices to defeat any conspiracyto disturb peace in Punjab. No one should be and will be allowed to disturb thehard earned atmosphere of peace and communal harmony in the state.” The party however strongly condemned efforts by the state Congressleaders and others to vilify the farmers campaign as “hooliganism”.

In another resolution, the Core Committee demanded the immediate sack of the Punjab minister Sadhu Singh Dharamsot for “perpetratingan unprecedented scam of embezzlement and misappropriation of public fundsbelonging to the students from the  Schedule Castes. “ The minister has gobbled up crores of rupees meant for the studentsbelonging to the poor  families fromscheduled castes Instead of taking action against the minister, the ChiefMinister Captain Amarinder Singh has turned a facilitator in the loot of publicfunds belonging to poor students. He has followed the shocking andunprecedented course of rejecting the report of inquiry conducted by his ownofficer and instead of punishing the indicted minister has punished the officerhimself.

Further, he has now asked junior officers to conduct a probe over andabove  their senior officers’ findings. Whatis happening in Punjab government is not just unbelievable. It is like watchingthe theatre of the absurd, ” said the Core Committee.

The Core Committeestrongly condemned the shocking tragedy at Hathras and described it as an “outrageagainst humanity and disgrace to the spirit of our nation.” The guilty must begiven exemplary punishment at the earliest.

SAD President MrSukhbir Singh Badal announced the setting up of a committee under the chairmanshipof former Speaker and senior Akali leader S Charanjit Singh Atwal to safeguardthe interests of the Dalits and economically weaker and exploited sections ofsociety. The committee has ten other members.
